Beneath the warm winter sun, a wave of science popularization swept through the bustling market. On January 24, 2026, the public welfare campaign of Science Popularization and Publicity on Emerging Contaminants, commissioned by the Social Work Department of the CPC Daxing District Committee of Beijing, undertaken by the Beijing International Association for Eco-Economy, and supported by the Ecological and Environmental Bureau of Daxing District, was held in a lively manner at the Xingfu Road Market in Panggezhuang Town and Daxing Greenland Fun City. The campaign, themed Acquire New Knowledge, Live a Green Life, Popularize Emerging Contaminant Knowledge for Pollution Reduction and Carbon Emission Cut, brought environmental protection concepts close to the people through down-to-earth publicity forms, attracting the enthusiastic participation of hundreds of residents and parent-child families in and around Daxing District.
“What are emerging contaminants?” “Is the water I drink safe?” Such questions filled the air at the event venue, with inquiries and discussions going back and forth. The staff had prepared informative science popularization brochures in advance, which included the definition, sources, potential hazards of emerging contaminants and scientific protection tips. Passing residents stopped to collect the brochures one after another, and many elderly people earnestly discussed the details of daily protection with the staff.
The poster publicity also garnered great attention from the public. Professionals in the environmental protection field explained the core knowledge of emerging contaminants in plain language combined with real-life examples, answering everyone’s questions one by one—from microplastics in drinking water to harmful chemicals in daily necessities. “I never knew that toys for kids and decoration materials at home may pose risks of emerging contaminants. I really learned practical protection methods today!” a young mother said with deep feeling after listening to the explanation.
The most popular part of the event was undoubtedly the Q&A session with canvas bag rewards. The staff handed out fun question cards related to emerging contaminants, and both adults and children joined in the activity on the spot, creating an extremely lively atmosphere. “You got all the answers right!
